Why Is My Car's Window Tint Turning Purple or Bubbling?

Older dyed window tint films use a dye layer to darken the glass, and that dye breaks down under years of Florida UV exposure, shifting from black or gray toward a purple or brownish tint. Bubbling happens when the adhesive layer holding the film to the glass fails, usually from heat cycling, age, or moisture getting between the film and the glass. Once either of these starts, the only real fix is removing the old film and installing new tint.
